Being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis does not mean you have to stop enjoying life. You may need to make some adjustments, but you are still able to set and achieve goals, travel, and participate in fulfilling activities.

Planning ahead can help your day-to-day life and long-term wellbeing. Prioritise your daily activities to accomplish the most important things first.

When you have the energy, try to be as active as possible and spend as much time as you can with your family and friends doing things you enjoy.

Pay attention to how you feel when you’re active, whether you are getting tired, breathless or coughing. Make sure you adjust your activity level based on how you feel. Don’t neglect taking time to rest as this can help you manage both your condition and your mental wellbeing.

Make changes to your home and environment to help you take care of your lungs. Stay away from any allergens or irritants, remove all aerosol products from your home as well as strongly scented cleaning or household products. Avoid second-hand cigarette smoke and follow your treatment team’s advice on how to care for your lungs at home.

Looking ahead and preparing for the future can provide peace of mind. Have open and honest discussions with your treatment team and loved ones. Many details of your care and daily life can be arranged in advance, allowing you to focus on what matters most to you.

Making small changes in your daily life and planning ahead can help improve your overall wellbeing
